Cow Dung Powder : Ancient Wisdom, Modern Application

One of India’s oldest agricultural inputs, now processed, standardised, and exported for organic farming, bio-fertiliser production, and industrial use.

Sky Ridge Exim supplies sun-dried, finely processed cow dung powder sourced from free-grazing Indian cattle in Maharashtra’s rural farming belt. The raw material is naturally collected, sun-dried to eliminate pathogens, and sieved to a uniform powder, ready for use as a standalone soil amendment, vermicompost feedstock, biogas substrate, or ingredient in traditional products.

Why Cow Dung Powder

A Versatile Organic Resource With Growing Global Demand

Used for millennia in Indian agriculture, cow dung is now gaining international attention as a sustainable, multi-purpose organic input across farming and industrial sectors.

Natural Soil Enrichment

Rich in organic matter, nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium. Improves soil fertility, microbial activity, and water-holding capacity when applied as a direct soil amendment.

Biogas Feedstock

One of the most efficient substrates for anaerobic digestion. Produces methane-rich biogas for cooking, heating, and electricity generation, a growing sector in developing nations.

Beneficial Microorganisms

Contains diverse populations of bacteria, fungi, and actinomycetes that act as natural bio-pesticides, suppressing soil-borne pathogens and promoting plant immune response.

Vermicompost Feedstock

The primary raw material for vermicompost production. Pre-composted cow dung is the ideal food source for Eisenia fetida earthworms in commercial vermicomposting operations.

Natural Pest Deterrent

When used as a seed coating or field spray (slurry form), cow dung acts as a natural pest repellent, a key input in Panchagavya and Jeevamrutham organic farming methods.

Carbon-Negative Product

Processing cow dung into soil amendments sequesters carbon that would otherwise be released as methane. Converting waste into export product is a net-positive environmental outcome.

Frequently Asked Questions

Cow Dung Powder Export FAQ

What international buyers ask most. Have a specific question? Get in touch.

Can cow dung powder be legally imported into my country?

Import regulations for animal-origin products vary significantly by country. Many nations require a phytosanitary certificate, heat treatment or irradiation documentation, and a veterinary health certificate confirming the product is free from specified pathogens. Some countries (notably Australia, New Zealand) have very strict biosecurity rules and may prohibit import entirely. We strongly recommend checking with your local customs or agricultural ministry before placing an order. We handle all India-side export documentation and can provide guidance on common destination requirements.

Is the cow dung from antibiotic-free cattle?

Yes. Our cow dung is sourced from free-grazing Indian cattle (indigenous Bos indicus breeds) in rural Maharashtra. These animals graze on natural pastures and are not given antibiotics, hormones, or medicated feed. This is critical for buyers in the organic farming and biogas sectors, where antibiotic residues in the feedstock can disrupt microbial processes. We can provide a declaration of antibiotic-free sourcing on request.

How are pathogens handled during processing?

Sun-drying for 10–15 days under Indian tropical conditions (temperatures exceeding 40°C) significantly reduces pathogen load including E. coli and Salmonella. Every export batch is lab-tested for microbial safety. The test results are included in the Certificate of Analysis provided with each shipment. If your destination country requires additional sterilisation (gamma irradiation or heat treatment), we can arrange this through certified Indian facilities at additional cost.

What is the minimum order quantity?

Minimum order is 500 kg for trial shipments. Recurring contracts are recommended at 5 tons or above to optimise container utilisation and freight cost per kilogram. Cow dung powder is a high-volume, moderate-value product, shipping economics improve substantially at scale. Evaluation samples of 25–50 kg can be arranged for quality assessment.

What is the difference between cow dung powder and cow dung cake?

Cow dung cakes (gobar upale) are hand-formed dried patties traditionally used as fuel and in religious ceremonies. Cow dung powder is mechanically ground, sieved to a uniform consistency, and standardised for industrial, agricultural, and manufacturing applications. Powder form is easier to transport, store, mix, and dose accurately, making it the preferred format for export. We supply powder only, not cakes.

Can it be used for biogas production?

Yes, cow dung is one of the most efficient biogas substrates globally. When rehydrated, our powder performs equivalently to fresh dung in anaerobic digesters. The powder format offers logistical advantages: lower shipping weight (dried to ≤12% moisture vs 80%+ in fresh dung), longer shelf life, and easier dosing. A 20ft container of powder, when rehydrated, produces the feedstock equivalent of approximately 80–100 tons of fresh cow dung.

What certifications and documents do you provide?

Standard export documentation includes commercial invoice, packing list, certificate of origin, phytosanitary certificate, fumigation certificate, and a Certificate of Analysis covering moisture, NPK, pH, organic carbon, and microbial safety. Veterinary health certificates and additional biosecurity documents can be arranged per destination country requirements. Organic certification (NPOP) available for batches from certified sourcing.

What are the payment terms and lead time?

Standard terms: 30% advance against proforma invoice, 70% against shipping documents. T/T bank transfer and L/C at sight accepted. Lead time: 15–20 working days for production, drying, testing, and packing. Ocean freight adds 20–35 days depending on destination. Shipping terms: FOB, CIF, CFR, DDP available. Full timeline and cost breakdown provided in quotation.
