Frequently Asked Questions

Fresh Pomegranate Export FAQ

What international fruit importers ask most. Need specifics? Contact us.

When is pomegranate season in India?

The main export season is Mrig Bahar, September to February. This is the highest-quality harvest with the best colour, sweetness, and shelf life. A limited Hasta Bahar season runs June to August, but volumes are lower and fruit quality can vary due to monsoon conditions. We recommend placing orders 4–6 weeks before your desired shipment window to secure farm allocation during peak season.

What variety do you export?

We primarily export the Bhagwa (also called Sinduri) variety, India's most commercially successful pomegranate cultivar. Bhagwa is preferred for export because of its deep red skin, ruby-coloured arils, soft seeds, high juice content (65–70% of fruit weight), and excellent shelf life (45–60 days under cold storage). Other varieties like Ganesh and Arakta are available on specific request but are less common in export markets.

How do you handle bacterial blight (Oily Spot)?

Bacterial blight caused by Xanthomonas axonopodis is the biggest quality concern in Indian pomegranate export. We address it through three measures: sourcing only from orchards with documented spray schedules and GAP compliance, visual inspection at grading (rejecting fruit with any surface lesions, water-soaked spots, or cracking), and pre-shipment lab testing for bacterial contamination. Our rejection rate during grading is 15–25%, which ensures only clean fruit enters export packing.

What is the minimum order quantity?

Minimum order is 1 pallet (approximately 1 ton / 200 boxes of 5 kg) for trial shipments via LCL reefer. For recurring business, a full 40ft reefer container holds 20–22 tons (4,000–4,400 boxes). We recommend full container loads for optimal freight economics and temperature control. Advance booking is essential during peak season, we require confirmed orders 4–6 weeks before desired shipment date.

Can you supply GlobalG.A.P. certified fruit?

Yes. We work with GlobalG.A.P. certified farms and APEDA-registered packhouses. GlobalG.A.P. certification is increasingly required by European supermarket chains and premium retailers. If your buyer requires GlobalG.A.P., inform us at the time of inquiry so we can allocate from certified orchards. Certified volumes are limited and require advance booking, especially during peak season.

What are the payment and shipping terms?

Fresh fruit export requires faster payment cycles than dry goods. Standard terms: 50% advance against proforma invoice, 50% against Bill of Lading copy. T/T bank transfer preferred for fresh produce. Shipping is exclusively by reefer container (sea freight) or air freight for urgent/premium orders. Shipping terms: FOB, CIF, CFR available. A 40ft reefer container from Maharashtra to major European/Gulf ports costs approximately USD 3,500–5,500 depending on season and route.
